Uber Technologies announced on September 2, 2026, that it will eliminate approximately 3,300 positions, representing about 10 percent of its global workforce. Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi outlined the changes in a memo to employees.

The company said the cuts aim to remove organizational layers, simplify team structures, and reduce complexity that accumulated during earlier growth. Managers will be reduced by roughly 20 percent in some descriptions of the plan, with some shifting to individual contributor roles. The number of very small teams will be cut substantially, and the company will limit fully remote roles to about 1 percent of staff while concentrating presence at designated hubs.

Khosrowshahi stated that the moves would free capacity to invest in core ride-sharing, delivery, and robotaxi efforts. Uber employed roughly 36,000 people earlier in 2026 according to filings referenced in coverage. The reductions mark the company’s largest since the early pandemic period. Shares rose after the announcement.

Analysts estimated potential annual savings in the hundreds of millions to low billions of dollars, though exact figures varied.
